On the whole, 2020 has been a pretty crazy year. It can be easy to focus on the negatives of this year and the things 2020 has taken from us. But I’m a firm believer that there is still some beauty to be found amongst the harshness of this year. If you look hard enough, there are still some gems to be discovered beneath the shadows and to give us hope for a better 2021.
Yes, 2020 has been a year of loss. But it has also a year of opportunity. Its allowed people to develop new skills, get out of that job they’ve always hated, to revaluate and find out what’s really important. And for some people, its allowed them to dream for a bigger and brighter future.
For me, 2020 has given me the opportunity to really develop my blog. I’ve been dipping in and out of blogging since 2017, but this year I decided to run with it and give it another go (to be honest, I really didn’t have much else to do this Spring…). But having that time to write posts, to think up new ideas and come up with a blog design I love has motivated me to carry on going and to grow Undaunted Adventure in to bigger and brighter things. From that, Undaunted Adventure has gained new followers, given me so many amazing opportunities and I’ve been lucky enough to receive some recognition from other Bloggers I love so much. This is my second nomination this year, and I am so excited. So thank you to Ricatography 101 for the nomination!

Where Undaunted Adventure All Began
As I previously mentioned, I started blogging way back in 2017 (which honestly feels like a lifetime ago). I went travelling in 2016 for the first time and completely fell in love with it, and I wanted to share my experiences of travelling, the highs and lows, and everything in between. As it does, life got in the way and I stopped blogging for a while. But at the end of 2019 I figured I’d give it another go. I’d done a couple of big trips since 2017 and I thought it would be great to document my memories and experiences – mainly for me to look back on in the future. I was writing my blog alongside the beginnings of a degree in Tourism Management and a part time job so it was a lot to try and balance – and sure enough, by the beginning of this year, I’d dropped the blog. But when we first went into lockdown in the Spring of 2020, I didn’t have much to do to keep me occupied. So, third time lucky, I began writing again. I began to share my experiences of being on the road, my highlights from various countries and attempted to share some tips to future travellers. Since then, my blog has continued to grow and develop, I’ve made some incredible friends within the Blogging world and I’ve found a love for writing posts. Travel is something I absolutely love, and I think blogging is almost a by-product of it.
2 Pieces of Advice for Aspiring Bloggers
Pick a topic you really love. I know this is a bit obvious, but trust me, it makes a difference. Don’t pick your topic or niche based on what you think is easy to write about. Because the internet is already with flooded with those. Maybe you love travelling and eating food from around the world. Maybe you love trying out different coffee shops. Maybe you can speak a language and can offer tips for aspiring learners. Pick a topic you love, and blogging will never feel too difficult.
Have fun. Don’t restrict yourself to trying to get a post out ‘X’ times a week, or trying to follow a set blogging schedule. Yes, that works for some people. But if it doesn’t work for you, then that’s fine. For many people, blogging starts out as a hobby – so have fun with it. Suddenly feel like writing about something outside your niche? Then write about it. Don’t be afraid to wander from the path sometimes. Go on an adventure and discover new writing styles, new techniques and new ways to share your thoughts and feelings.
Here are my nominees! These guys are incredible, they work hard and their posts are so much fun. You can tell they love what they’re talking about, and if you’re ever in a blogging pickle the I’m sure they would be ready to offer you some blogging guidance!
