Top Tips for Booking Your Next Adventure

Whether you’re dreaming of your next holiday, making tentative plans for an international getaway or busy booking something a little closer to home, here are my top tips for booking your next adventure!

Go ‘Incognito’

The online world is pretty smart these days. Our favourite sites can remember what we’re searching for and cheekily hike up the price of your airfare, hotel cost or any other expense for your trip. Simply loading an incognito webpage allows you to browse somewhat under the radar and makes sure you’re getting the best price possible for your much deserved holiday.

Check Reviews and Photos

Before you book anything – whether it be a plane ticket, hotel room, or excursion – make sure you read up on who you’re travelling with or where you’re staying. Sites like Booking.Com make it easy for you to read customer reviews, or alternatively you can check out TripAdvisor or Google Reviews.

Avoid Expensive Booking Days

Traditionally Tuesday used to be the best day to bag a bargain online – but now that appears to have moved to a Thursday. And the most expensive one? Sunday!

Travel Off Season

This is a little bit obvious, I guess. But if you’re not restricted by school holidays for example, travelling in the off season is a great way to save your hard-earned cash.

Do Your Research

This is a biggie. Do a little research and make sure you’re clued up for your trip. A handy thing I’ve learned to do is to Google average taxi fares at my destination – because there’s nothing worse than being charged double the price just because you’re a tourist! It’s also important to make sure you’re staying in a safe area, you know what you want to do, and whether there’s any cultural aspects you need to respect during your trip!

Check the Cancellation Policy

Make sure you know the cancellation policies of the website you’re booking through and of the booking provider themselves. Sites like Booking.Com often offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before your trip, where as others will offer none at all.

Know the Currency

Keep an eye on inflation rates and other changes to local currencies as this can have a big impact on your total spend! Also keep in mind that some countries such as Cambodia also use US$ so be prepared to change between multiple currencies on your trip! Downloading a currency converter is a great way to keep on top of the rates!

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we can get back to exploring and going on new adventures!

  1. Knowing the currency (and maybe a little of the language) is so important when going abroad! I would also say that tourists need to make an effort to know and understand the culture of the place they are visiting, and I love this post 🙂 x
